Artist’s Statement
My life’s journey-as-artist has been a matter of bearing witness to an indwelling beauty and love that has continuously sought and found outward expression through me. With this thought I am reminded of the words spoken by Almustafa in “The Prophet” written by Kahlil Gibran: “Was it I who spoke? Was I not also a listener?”
My studies of how color, shape, pattern, and form impact human consciousness have been a guiding light in this exploration. Giving birth to forms and images that have proven to be stimulating, uplifting, expanding, inspiring, educative, and inducing reflection and contemplation in others is part of my mission.
The life of some artists involves a dedication to recording immaterial events (inner experiences of the mind, heart, soul, or spirit) through material means. This journey is a process often void of a knowable destination, yet always imbued with a sense of arriving.
The ever yearning of the formless to take form requires a surrendering and yielding to the inspirations that arise within me. Over the course of these past forty-two years I have grown to respect and appreciate the responsibility for this birth-giving in ways that have deepened and widened my spirit, and hopefully, the spirit(s) of others. From this place of service I stand in gratitude seeing this life’s work as a love offering to those choosing to receive. And, to the many responses of appreciation from others I have answered with these words: “Your response to this work is my greatest reward!”
